Helmet Maintenance

Helmet Safety Standards: Does the helmet comply with the GAA and camogie safety standards? Ensure you are using a helmet that has been certified to meet the safety standard for hurling and camogie helmets, which is I.S. 355: 2006 (Specification for helmets for hurling and camogie players).

Helmet Fitment: Helmets are available in various sizes to ensure a proper fit. It’s important to try on different sizes to find the one that fits comfortably on your head. Utilize the adjustable straps to secure the helmet in place.

Faceguard Integrity: Do not remove or alter any wires or bars on the faceguard. Doing so may not only compromises your visibility but also invalidates the safety certification of the helmet. According to I.S. 355: 2006, the faceguard is designed to protect against impacts from approved Size 4 and Size 5 Official Sliotars.

Helmet Maintenance: You can clean your helmet by wiping it with a soft cloth and tap water. Some models may have a removable and washable inner lining, which can be cleaned in case of blood injury, adhering to hygiene regulations.

Helmet Customization: Avoid respraying, laminating, lacquering, or writing on the helmet yourself as these actions can weaken the plastic structure.

Final Reminder: It is the player’s responsibility to wear a helmet with a facial guard that adheres to the established safety standards.
